Express Entry system is meant to fast track the processing time and aid economic immigration to Canada. The registered profiles under the Express Entry online portal are ranked against each other under a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The higher the score, the better are the chances of getting nominated for permanent residence in Canada.

The score awarded under CRS is dynamic, that is the candidates may improve their scores and rank higher if one is willing to put in the effort.

Perfecting your Express Entry profile

Filling-in the legitimate information is important to avoid unnecessary penalties for misrepresenting yourself in the Express Entry system. You can work on these four broad fields: Language, Education, Primary applicant, Work experience to boost your CRS score.

Improving your Language skills can fetch you up to 290 CRS points. Say, for a Federal Skilled Worker candidate to enter the Express Entry pool, a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 7 is required and the highest language level for which points are awarded within the CRS is CLB 10. Therefore, you may still have the scope of getting more CRS points by improving your language proficiency.

Education can fetch you up to 230 CRS points. You can get full score by completing another degree, or by obtaining Education Credential Assessments for the existing degree. An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is a document that verifies the Canadian equivalence of a foreign degree, diploma, certificate, or other proof of education credential.

It is often seen that the main applicant’s CRS score may be lower than that of their accompanying partner. In such cases, it is advisable for the accompanying partner to be the principal applicant.

Better documentation of current work experience may fetch you additional CRS points. Not only that, it can make you eligible for one of the Canada Provincial Nominee Programs. By virtue of it, you may get an additional 600 CRS points! Also, candidates with a valid job offer may obtain either 50 or 200 additional points towards their CRS score depending on the position.

With the CRS cut-off scores hovering around 450 in the recent Express Entry draws, perfecting your Express Entry profile by focussing on areas mentioned above will fetch you an invitation for permanent residence in Canada.
